Two months ago, after a (very) long summer vacation, I started my journey as one of Visma’s new Management Trainees. Five years of studying, three months of summer vacation coming to an end – I was ready! I entered the 9th floor of the Skøyen building with my head held high, ready to embrace five comprehensive projects over the next 12 months.

The first couple of days
We are ten Management Trainees this year. Four from Norway, three from Sweden, two from Finland and one from Denmark. Day one – we all sat down in a meeting room at the 9th floor in Skøyen.
We went through the usual “Who are you and what’s your background?” and “What are your expectations for the trainee period?”. Even though I knew what I wanted to say, I was quite nervous.
During the first couple of days we got to know each other and Visma as a company. We learned how Visma is built up, how the different subsidiaries work together, and of course about useful tricks, tools, apps, figures, and so on.
I didn’t have much experience working for large companies, so, as you probably understand, there was a lot of information to take in.
We finished the opening week going on a cabin trip. We went to the mountains of Norefjell about 90 minutes from Oslo. When we got there, the sounds and noises of Oslo were the last thing on our minds, as we embraced the silence and the fresh, Norwegian mountain air.
With mountain hiking, quality meals and, of course, team building on the agenda, these couple of days turned out to be the start of a journey I’ll never forget.
I must humbly say, based on the first few days’, and now the first two months’, new friendships, network and experiences, that taking on a job as a Management Trainee in Visma is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
My first project
Now, two months after I started, I can look back on what I’ve learned and experienced so far. My first project has been in Visma’s Corporate Finance department. The project has been twofold, where I’ve been improving corporate reporting procedures in Visma in two main areas.
I started this by building a new budget template to be used in the entire organisation. As a recent business student I thought this was going to be a walk in the park, up until the point where I was asked to write javascript for reconciliation and consolidation, and other budget related tasks. This made the project waaaay more challenging that I thought it was going to be.
The second part of the project has been to improve the current transfer pricing models and structures. I recently presented my findings of this part of the project for the management of the Visma group, and although this was really scary, I received very positive feedback.
These days I’m close to finishing my first project, and have started to look forward to my next project; in Sweden.

My next project – Hejdå Norge
I’m going to Stockholm! The next two months will be spent in söta bror Sweden, where I will be working for Visma SPCS in Stockholm and Växjö. I’m really looking forward to trying something new and to be a part of a new culture.
To be honest, I’m still not quite sure about what I’ll be doing, but I know that it has something to do with project management, sales, key customers, Visma eAccounting and a lot of travelling. So, bye Norway, see you in two months!
