Impressive win for Team Jumbo-Visma in Team Time Trial UAE Tour
Team Jumbo-Visma won the first stage in the first edition of the UAE Tour in an impressive way. This was the third win of the season for Team Jumbo-Visma. Primoz Roglic was the first to cross the finish line and gets the red leader’s jersey, the points jersey and the sprint jersey. Laurens De Plus was currently the best young rider.
Team leader Roglic says:
“We are very happy to start the season this way. We have a good team here with very strong time trialists, but that is no guarantee to perform well. You also have to show it in the race and that’s what we did. I am glad that all the training we have done is already paying off. It was a fast team time trial and it went very well.
I came first through the last corner and then pulled a sprint. It’s nice to have the leader’s jersey and we certainly have ambitions to win this race. There are still some tough stages coming up, so we take it day by day. But we have an excellent start.”

A knee injury forces Daan Olivier to quit pro cycling
Although there were many ups in 2019, there were also some downs.
After the first day of the Tour of the Basque Country, Olivier is forced to immediately end his professional cycling career. The 26-year-old Dutchman has been suffering from a knee injury since a crash last year. On his blog, he writes the following:
“It feels hard and unreal that I am forced to abandon not only the Basque Country race but the race of Professional Cycling. It feels like a dream has fallen to pieces. Cycling has brought me a lot. Those experiences I will never forget, and I am more than grateful that I have been privileged to live this life for almost 11 years.”

As a result, Mike Teunissen retains his leading position in the overall classification and the team now occupies the first five positions. Teunissen is also in possession of the green points jersey whereas Wout van Aert takes on the white jersey as he now is the leader in the best young rider classification.
Van Aert crashes during Time Trial and Kruisjwijk moves up to third place in TdF

Wout van Aert, on the other hand, crashes in the Time Trial and needs an operation – meaning he is out of TdF:
“It hurts that I had to leave the Tour this way. It’s also a big disappointment for the team. Maybe I was in my best shape ever. And maybe I didn’t have the best legs during the time trial, but I was riding very well in the days before. Seeing how the team is performing now, I would have wanted to contribute. It’s very nice to see and follow, but it’s also painful.”
