Visma’s contribution to European Cyber Security Month

What is the European Cyber Security Month (ECSM)?

The European Cybersecurity Month (ECSM) is an annual campaign run by the European Union to promote cyber security among EU citizens and organisations. It is also an important initiative to provide up-to-date online security information through awareness-raising and sharing of good practices. Security Marketing Coordinator in Visma, Helle Hobbelhagen, explains:

“With cyberattacks on the rise and becoming more and more sophisticated, annual campaigns such as ECSM are becoming more important than ever before with the purpose to raise awareness and remind people of the risks.”

Each year, for the entire month of October, hundreds of activities take place across Europe. This includes, among other things, conferences, workshops, training, webinars, and presentations, to promote digital security, cyber crime and cyber hygiene.

The initiative is coordinated by the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and the European Commission.

Since the first event in 2012, the European Cyber security Month has been reaching its key priorities by bringing together parties from across Europe under the slogan ‘Cybersecurity is a Shared Responsibility’ to unite against cyber threats. Each year, the campaign not only promotes the safer use of the Internet for EU citizens, but the organisers provide the knowledge and tools to do so.

Why is Visma participating?

Security is a key focus in our organisation, and we see the ECSM to be an important part of establishing a strong security culture. Especially now, in the times of a pandemic crisis, throughout the world, the focus on cyber security needs to be even stronger.

“One of our top priorities is to build a strong security culture both within and outside of Visma. Everybody can become victims of cybercrime and this is why it is important that companies contribute to the ECSM and create awareness regarding cybercrime.
When we choose to fight crime together with other companies we stand stronger to defend ourselves when we are victimised by scams and other types of attacks. Knowledge and education in this subject will lead to a decreased number of victims in the long-run,” says Isabel Quiroga Arkvik, Security Communication Manager at Visma.

For the fourth year, we will take part in this important campaign with numerous internal and external cyber security initiatives. In addition to running a Security Conference, SecCon, we will execute on several internal initiatives for Visma employees including e-learning courses, cyber security talks, stands and competitions.
